Wet Sandals

2 years ago on K-bao's first visit to Hawaii, at age 2, she thought it would be awfully funny to steal K-Pop's slippers and throw them into the Pacific Ocean. Below is the clip, from 2011, of a dumbfounded K-Pop trying to talk sense into a gleeful and unrepentant 2-year-old K-bao. (Upon review, K-Pop's authority was undoubtedly undermined by the silly hat he was wearing.)

Over the weekend at Stinson beach, now two years later, those good memories came flooding back to her. Which resulted in the below shenanigans.

Has anyone seen as mischievous a face as what K-bao displays in the first 10 seconds of the below?

將君

Don't ever tell K-bao she doesn't like to win. Here she celebrates - rather over the top, we would say - after pulling off a rare chess move: forking not only the rook while checking K-Pop's king, but the queen as well. C-bao looks on in delight.

Going Over the Sea

Here is K-bao hammin' it up with a nursery rhyme she learned at SLS this past semester.

Buddies

Several months ago K-bao made a friend at the park she frequents. The two found common interests in hide and seek, acting silly and "picking beans" (which turned out to be hunting and gathering a variety of plant species in the park - several of which are now endangered thanks to their over-zealous hunt & gather sessions). K-bao now clammers to go to the park every day to meet her buddy Fiona, whom she is pictured with below.

4 Going on 14

While K-bao has always been a sassy girl, over the last quarter or so she has officially entered what K-Mum has called the "4 going on 14" stage, where she has doubled down on the 'tude and spunk.

A few days ago, K-Pop asked the family innocently if we were going to have Korean food that night at a dinner event. K-bao put on her Exasperated Face and hit unsuspecting Dad with this zinger:

"Daddy, it's at a Korean restaurant, what are you talking about?"

In another incident, K-Mum got upset at K-bao for failing to obey instructions. As the punishment was being meted out, K-bao complained loudly:

"But Mommy, it's just a balloon. It's not that important! Why are you being so dramatic?"

(Yes, she really said "dramatic," and with extra emphasis). K-Mum was having none of it, so K-bao continued with this pointed observation:

"Mommy, I am trying to talk, and all you are doing is saying 'No, No, No, No, No!'"

Down, Down Baby

On the way to the bookstore with C-bao today, K-bao suddenly had her 4-year-old mind stuck on the Roller Coaster song taught to her by Xiao Ah-Yi (Aunty Christina) several years ago - to the point where she had to stop and give an impromptu performance.

Here is the rendition - a little lacking in accuracy but all there in heart.

By the way, you can see C-bao, who is enjoying the solo, giving her "The Wave" in appreciation at 0:13.

I Wanna Be Like You

After a season of rigorous ballet practices, K-bao had her ballet recital today at the Palace of Fine Arts.

Given this group of energetic little monkeys, the piece they danced to was, naturally, The Jungle Book's "I Wanna Be Like You" (sung by King Louie, an ambitious orangutan, in the original). Outfitted in an expensive monkey suit - complete with tail sewed on lovingly by K-Mum last night - little K-bao pranced around the stage happily with the rest of her troupe. Here she is monkeying around with a few friends before and after the act.

And here she is on stage (on the far left), "dancing her heart out" per K-Mum's instructions.

Story

K-bao enjoys a rambunctious telling by K-mum of the old Dr. Seuss classic Fox in Socks.

K-mum has spoiled K-bao with her skills in story-telling, to the point where if K-pop is the one doing the bedtime reading he is treated to a steady stream of advice from the little one on how to improve his intonation and enthusiasm (e.g. "Be more excited!").
