Scary

Over her 7 years of enjoying Halloween, K-bao has moved from the sweet, to the silly, to the sassy, and now the scary.

To K-Mum, of course, she will always be our sweet little girl. Or at least she tries to remember that when the little one's sassy side comes out.

Raggedy Ann

For Halloween this year, K-bao dressed up as Raggedy Ann, the iconic character created in the early 1900s. As in years past, the main point was of course the colorful wig.

One of the key advantages of this type of costume is the fact that K-bao is easy to spot in a crowd.

Later in the day, K-bao met up with one of her best friends to go Trick-or-Treating together. Here she is, along with sister C-bao, who dressed up as Ariel this year.

K-Pop donned a silly hat for the festivities, something neither K-bao nor her mother was particularly happy about.

At the end of the night, K-bao goes through her treasure trove item by item and negotiates trade terms with C-bao.

Scary Song

K-bao performs a couple of spooky songs for Halloween.

Sister C-bao gets roped in for some theatrical dancing while K-bao takes care of the vocals.

K-bao did of course make sure to train C-bao to jump in with the "Boo!s" and scary cackling at the appropriate times.

Feeling Brave

Donning her most ambitious costume yet - complete with a flaming red wig - K-bao is Merida, the girl who turns her mother into a bear.

"Don't stay out too long, or I'll really become a bear!" warned K-Mum, who was concerned the weather was too cold for prolonged trick-or-treating.

Along the way, K-bao bargained and negotiated her way into additional homes to visit, as well as specific candies she wanted to make sure were carved out from K-Pop's rule that "All candies collected belong to the entire family" (namely, any purple ones, any particularly large chocolates, or others with unusually attractive wrappers).

One thing's for sure, our little one certainly has the independence, strong-will and feisty nature shared by her character (which appears to be a common theme in her Halloween costumes).

Part of Your World

Well on her way to being just as independent, strong-minded and adventurous as Ariel, K-bao picked her "third-favorite princess" as her 2013 Halloween character.

A Rolling Pumpkin Gathers No Moss

K-bao was the star pumpkin at her SLS Halloween School Play (mainly because there was only one pumpkin). Here she is at the dress rehearsal in a clip of the end of the play caught by K-Pop. The entire class gathers to uproot the stubborn fruit - yes, the role was well chosen - and finally succeeds in dislodging it. K-bao then rolls so enthusiastically that she loses a shoe.

Afterwards, the class gathered to sing some spooky songs and make some spooky faces.

Song of the Witches

K-bao has broadened her literary repertoire with some Shakespeare recently. Here she puts on her best scary voice and recites a spooky poem in honor of approaching Halloween. Sister C-bao listens to the Macbethian witches' chant with a look of discomfort.

Boo

K-bao dons a Colombian Sombrero Vueltiao - straight from Bogota - and is immediately inspired to sing a spooky song.

Ladybug Song

Here is K-bao at her first school musical. You can hear the Ladybug's voice bursting out at the end of the first refrain, demanding to be heard.

Trick or Treat 2

Following up on the earlier Halloween post, a few belated clips from our little outing at the end of October where she played Curious Georgia. Below she is practicing her Trick or Treat routine (Clip 1), forgetting her candy bag (Clip 2), and looking somewhat confused during an actual exchange with a neighbor but keeping enough wits to clamor for more candy (Clip 3).

Trick or Treat

K-bao participated in her first Halloween this year, attending both a party at K-Pop's office and a local Trick or Treat outing in our apartment complex. For the office shindig, we woke her up from a nap in order to attend and she seemed dazed and confused by the mayhem of the kids in various costumes. At first, she refused to leave K-Mum's arms. Once she realized however that a collection of candy was involved, she scrambled down quickly and by the end of the office tour was the most aggressive kid in the group, shouting "More!" and elbowing others out of the way. Indeed, after about 15 minutes K-bao's sizeable candy bag was so heavy she could barely lift it.

By the time our apartment outing rolled around this was all old hat. K-bao slipped into her monkey costume - she has had an affinity for monkeys ever since Uncle Chris' monkey demonstration - and walked around the floors again hollering "More" (or "Two" anytime a host had the audacity to only offer one).
