Government

K-bao and K-Pop were at the mall today and fell into conversation about the government.

It started with K-bao asking how long it took for the mall to be built. "Years," replied K-Pop. Queried as to why so long, K-Pop found himself going through the complexities related to zoning, regulation and bureaucracy. This then snowballed into a conversation about laws, democracy and representative government.

K-bao listened intently for a while, digesting her first lesson in Political Science.

The first line out of her mouth was:

"Daddy, when I grow up I'm going to be the government and I'm going to boss you around."

Alpha Female

"Daddy, I'd like to get married when I'm 5 years old," said precocious little K-bao today.

"Now why is that, K-bao?"

"Because I'd like to tell my husband what to do."

Yes, this really happened.

Update: The most common response K-Pop has heard from friends to the above incident is, "Monkey see, monkey do." Not to point any fingers, of course, or mention any names, K-Mum.

Dealmaker

The K-folks weren't exaggerating when they said their firstborn has some serious bossy genes, uh, some leadership skills.

Here you can see K-bao harnessing her inner Sheryl Sandberg and deciding the day's schedule for K-Pop. Poor Daddy knew he was in trouble when the first words out of K-bao's mouth when she marched in were "Here's our deal."

Fancy Nancy

K-Pop was strong-armed into playing the dreaded "Fancy Nancy" board game with K-bao.

As the game began, K-bao declared, "Whoever is the smallest gets to go first." This was said with such authority that K-Pop was initially stunned into silent submission.

After gathering his wits, K-Pop challenged this decree. K-bao promptly appealed to a higher authority. "That's what Mommy said. Go ask Mommy."

And that was only the beginning. As the game progressed, K-bao marched out a stunning array of rules, most of which just happened to benefit her position.

"It's [the spinner] stuck in the middle. Skip a turn!" "Give me that. You don't need it." "That's supposed to stay in the box."

Finally, K-Pop decided it was time to course-correct, and launched into a short lecture on the importance of love, respect and consideration, even in game-play.

At which point K-bao finally revealed her true colors. "Daddy, can you please just stop talking. I want to win!"

Groceries

The below is typical K-bao behavior on a grocery run to Ranch 99, the Chinese grocery store - or frankly any grocery store (K-bao frequents Trader Joe's, Safeway, Whole Foods and others on a regular basis). As you can see, K-bao is not only in everyone's business, but she also insists on:

(1) making regular grocery suggestions to K-Mum by running individual samples over ("What about this cucumber?" "Do we need any carrots?");
(2) touching every exotic-looking fruit and vegetable, such as the forbidden pineapple (K-Pop's reference to the "prickly pair" is an allusion to the Bear Necessities song in the Jungle Book, one of K-bao's favorites);
(3) procuring copious numbers of plastic bags while bossing K-Pop around in the process ("Pull, Daddy, Pull")

The Boss

K-bao: "Dad, why did you say 'frick' just now?"
K-Pop: "Oops, did I say frick?"
K-bao: "Yes you did. 'Frick' is a bad word."
K-Pop: ".....You're right, it is a bad word."
K-bao: "Don't say that next time. I don't like it"

K-bao: "Dad, move over please."
K-Pop: "Why? I'm comfortable here."
K-bao, waving her stuffed penguin: "There's no space for Penguin." Eyeing the other stuffies lined up over the bed, "Penguin has a big body."
K-Pop: "But I'm bigger than Penguin."
K-bao: "Penguin really needs to lie down."
K-Pop: ".....um, ok."

Friends

K-bao got to hang out with her friends Dylan, Naomi and Baby Sam a little while back over Mother's Day weekend. Perhaps due to all the practice managing (and disciplining) her other "friends" - i.e. the stuffies who reside in her crib - she has become quite maternal, particularly with noticeably younger children. In other words, she has no problem bringing out the bossiness.

Bossy

While K-Pop admittedly has little to no fashion sense, he is not pleased to report that instead of one woman bossing him around on his everyday dress, he now has two.

Today when K-Pop came home, K-bao insisted on several wardrobe changes. First, she grabbed the pink dress shirt in the closet. "Ba-ba, wear this one. Ba-ba, wear this one." Apparently K-Pop's blue shirt looked a little drab by comparison. It took several minutes of explanation to establish that K-Pop needed to change out of work clothes.

Next, K-Pop tried to get comfortable with some pajama pants. "Ba-ba, don't wear that. Take it off. Now is not the time to sleep." K-Pop was unable to argue with that reasoning, and reluctantly trudged back to the bedroom to switch into more formal wear.

Does not bode well for the next 16 years.
