The Critic

K-bao, who has never been shy about expressing herself, has been taking her opinions to a new and unprecedented level recently - particularly on matters of art and fashion.

For example, K-Grandmum, who is visiting for a spell, was subjected to the following unfortunate exchange this morning:

K-Grandmum: "Good morning, K-bao!"
K-bao: "I don't like your clothes, Grandmum, can you go change please?"
K-Grandmum: "...Um...what would you like me to wear?"
K-bao: "I like your pink shirt, please change into that one."
K-Grandmum: ......

But what K-bao taketh away, K-bao also giveth. A similar incident occurred when Aunty Katie walked in the other day:
K-bao: "Oooh, Aunty Katie, I love your shirt!" Then, running over to run her hands over it, "So soft!"
Aunty Katie: "K-bao, you're making me blush."

Bossy

While K-Pop admittedly has little to no fashion sense, he is not pleased to report that instead of one woman bossing him around on his everyday dress, he now has two.

Today when K-Pop came home, K-bao insisted on several wardrobe changes. First, she grabbed the pink dress shirt in the closet. "Ba-ba, wear this one. Ba-ba, wear this one." Apparently K-Pop's blue shirt looked a little drab by comparison. It took several minutes of explanation to establish that K-Pop needed to change out of work clothes.

Next, K-Pop tried to get comfortable with some pajama pants. "Ba-ba, don't wear that. Take it off. Now is not the time to sleep." K-Pop was unable to argue with that reasoning, and reluctantly trudged back to the bedroom to switch into more formal wear.

Does not bode well for the next 16 years.

Fashion & Bingo

A few good friends took us out to brunch in Burlingame today and K-bao took the opportunity to explore the chic stores along the charming Burlingame streets. Here she is with K-Mum, ignoring the camera in favor of the designer baby clothes she sees in the Janie and Jack store. K-bao has shown an early aptitude for (or at least fascination with) fashion - for example, she can stare at the little outfits in her closet for ten minutes at a stretch, which is five to seven more minutes than she is willing to look at anything else, including her own daddy's face.

She also appears to like music. She now recognizes some of the tunes she has heard multiple times in the Hu Household, and we are generally able to squeeze a few good smiles out of her if we launch a round or two of "If You're Happy and You Know It," the "BINGO Clapping Song," "Jesus Loves Me" or "Head and Shoulders, Knees & Toes" - especially if we wave her dimpled little fists during the songs or jump around like buffoons ourselves. This, of course, has led to a few rather sad scenes of K-bao's poor parents reduced to trying to drown out the little one's public screeching with even louder and likely more objectionable renditions of bad nursery rhymes.  I can also say from personal experience that there is nothing worse to have stuck in your head than the BINGO Clapping Song. B-I-NGO...and Bingo was his name-o!

#TimeFlies

January 1, 2021! How time flies. K-bao's growth from a spunky little kid to a rambunctious tween is one of the most tangible markers of ...
