Taiwan 2019 (Part I)

This summer K-bao and C-bao made their 4th trip to Taiwan (and 5th to Asia), following up on their Formosa adventures in 2013, 2016 and 2017.

By this time the girls were old hands, and were well stocked with headphones, tablets, books, snacks, stuffies, slime and other distractions. K-Pop traveled alone with the girls, as K-Mum had to work for another week+ before joining the family.

After a relatively uneventful flight (including Chinese + Math homework in addition to the inevitable Pixar movie or two), the girls arrived in Taipei and joyfully said hello to various family members.

Of course, they wasted no time in commandeering Aunt Catherine (Xiao Goo Goo)'s phone and immediately taking a hundred Snap pics with various filters.

One person K-bao met on this trip is Mildred, who helps the K-grandfolks with daily life. Mildred happens to be an expert at braiding hair, and the girls enjoyed wonderful new braids every day this trip.

Much more to come!

Art

Now this, my friends, is a piece of art: K-bao's first independently completed pigtails. Sister C-bao is the beneficiary.

Up

Triumph!

K-bao's desire to see her own face in the little mirror we rigged up on the floor finally overcame her unimpressive neck muscles.

We call this the victory of vanity over sloth.

As you can see here - a bit wobbly - but definitely up.

Her little neck has stiffened appreciably - both literally and metaphorically - over the past week. When held, she now cranes as far back as she can in an effort to make use of her new found freedom of movement. The strength is not yet completely there so she still looks like a bobblehead doll. She also tends to simultaneously wriggle her bottom, kick her legs vigorously, and generally make it as difficult as possible for whomever it is trying to hold her.

Incidentally, K-bao apparently sometimes likes her appearance in the mirror and sometimes not. Sometimes she will coo and giggle. But other times she will shrink back with a look of disappointment, and give us an exasperated look: "What did you do to my hair?!"

#TimeFlies

January 1, 2021! How time flies. K-bao's growth from a spunky little kid to a rambunctious tween is one of the most tangible markers of ...
