World Cup

In honor of #WorldCupFever raging around the world, K-bao took little C-bao to the park to show her how to kick a ball.

Here are a few more action shots.

Joke

K-bao: "Dad, I have a really good joke!"
K-Pop: "What is it, K-bao?"
K-bao: "Victor, what's your name?"
K-Pop: "...Um, it's Victor..."
K-bao: "HAHAHAHA!"

Ballet

As if to remind us how quickly this year has gone by, K-bao's annual ballet performance at the Palace of Fine Arts sprung up this past weekend. Last year, as we recall, she was a dancing monkey. C-bao, then under one, was too young to sit through the performance, and K-Pop spent pretty much the entire time other than the 3 minutes of K-bao's actual dance entertaining C-bao in the hall outside.

This year, C-bao, trooper that she is, actually sat inside the hall and was reasonably well-behaved through the entire performance, which includes close to two dozen ballet classes and lasted almost two hours. Here is the young one striking her ballet connoisseur pose.

Here is K-bao getting ready to go onstage.

And here are the post-dance hugs after a wonderful performance by K-bao:

And here is the full performance:

Graduation

K-bao is about to graduate from preschool after 3 years of hard work (i.e. singing, dancing and playing with her friends).

K-Pop recently walked into the kitchen to discover the following scene. Clearly somebody has been rehearsing for the big day.

WZ Shu-Shu

K-bao's Aunt Catherine's fiance, Wen Zheng Shu-Shu, came by to visit recently.

K-bao, who is a big fan of her Aunt Catherine a.k.a. Xiao Goo-Goo, figured that anyone who was going to join the family ought to be initiated into standard family practices.

Soon WZ Shu-Shu found himself building Lego houses with the little one...

...being "locked down" (while forced to listen to chants of "lock-down, baby, lock-down!")...

...and listening to K-bao prance around singing Let It Go. Welcome to the family WZ!

Not Confirmed

A couple of weekends ago, the K-folks went to a Parenting Seminar hosted by our church. Uncle Calvin and Aunt Christina (a.k.a. Xiao Jiu and Xiao Ah-Yi) generously came by to babysit during that time. At one point, the following text exchange transpired between Uncle Calvin and K-Pop:

You read that right. Out of an abundance of caution given the chilly weather, Uncle Calvin wisely asks K-bao put on some warm pants, and reinforces his authority by texting first for parental confirmation.

After said confirmation is given by K-Pop, somehow the little one sneaks away her Uncle's phone, manages to read the text exchange, and in her contrarian mischievousness types: "Not confirmed. Kaylajordanhumomanddad." And then a bunch of euphemistic gibberish to express her frustration at having to change out of her pretty dress.

The Parenting Seminar did indeed address how parents should deal with rebels, but what about supremely cute and literate ones?

Cool Run

K-bao found herself in Phoenix recently on a hot, sunny day. The temperature was approaching 100 and the glaring rays were burning off not only the family's thick layer of sunscreen but the K-folks' thin layer of patience.

Suddenly, the little one spied some water sprinklers. Before the K-folks knew it, the shoes were off and she was racing around through the cool jet streams.

Relief at last!

#TimeFlies

January 1, 2021! How time flies. K-bao's growth from a spunky little kid to a rambunctious tween is one of the most tangible markers of ...
